Billie's best friend is dead on the floor of a Montana cabin, and her seventeen-year-old goddaughter is gone.

Billie saw her. On the drive in, a red pickup forced her off the gravel road, and through its back window a dark-haired girl stared right at her. Billie kept driving.

She's the only living person who knows what happened in that cabin. There's no cell signal and no help for miles, and every hour she waits, the truck gets farther away.

So Billie goes after her. A television producer from Los Angeles with a dead phone, the wrong shoes, and a designer bag, walking into country that kills prepared people, toward a man nobody in the valley has ever looked at twice. He has a padlocked shed, a plan, and no intention of stopping at one girl.

The wilderness isn't the most dangerous thing out here.
